Frequently Asked Questions:
Countertops:
Can I have a seamless sink with granite or Quartz?
Seamless sinks can only be
installed with solid surface countertops, such as our Atlas
product. Normally, under mount sinks are used in stone countertops.
We carry a wide variety, from stainless, granite composite, cast iron, and copper
What about seams in general?
Solid surface is the only product we offer that can be made seamless. If your project requires more
than one piece of granite or quartz, a seam may be required. Also depends on the length needed, most slab are only about 118 inches. Sizes vary.
What is the main difference between granite and quartz?
While granite is all natural, quartz is an engineered stone. Quartz countertops are 93% quartz and 7%
acrylic compressed together. Both are equally good for counterotps.
Do granite and quartz countertops need to be sealed?
Granite should typically be sealed once a year under normal circumstances, while quartz never has to
be sealed again after it is installed. Our company does provide a 15 year sealer for granite and marble.
Are these surfaces heat resistant?
Yes. Granite and Quartz are both tolerant to heat. However, it is generally advised to use a trivet
when placing hot pots on either surface. Soild Surface Products such as Corian or our Atlas product is not very heat resistant.
What happens if it gets scratched?
Although both surfaces are highly scratch resistant, small scratches can be professionally repaired
if they occur.
What is the Template Process for Countertops?
A template is made over the new or exiting cabinets from wooden strips to create a pattern for the new
countertop. To do a template, it is best to do directly over the cabinets. In a remodel, CCD can template over the existing counters if needed, but the most accurate is over the cabinets directly. The
lead time is approx. 2 to 7 days till install.
Installation Process for Countertops?
The Granite is hand carried inside and set in place carefully. Seams are pulled tight with a seam puller and boned with an epoxy. The countertop is held in place with silicone and the pure weight of the stone. Stone back splash is held in place with pure silicone. Cooktop, drop-in cuouts and faucet holes are cut on site, and a vacuum is held in place to minimize dust. Normally, plumbing is not provided for the sink, but can be included in the contract.
Remodels:
What is the process for a kitchen remodel?
Once the contract is signed and all drawing / plans have been approved, we will order any material need to complete the job. Once we have an accurate lead time for products, when will then create a detailed time line for the customer. Once everything has arrived, CCD - Designer Kitchen & Bath will begin demo. Our main focus is not to disrupt the customer's home too much, and have them without a kitchen for very long.
Once demo is complete, we can install all products.
Example: Install tile or wood flooring (2 to 3 days), install the canbinets (2 days), template for the countertop as soon as base cabinets are set, countertop (1 to 2 days), install back splash (2 to 3 days), install new appliances (1 day), electrical (2 to 3 days). Most everything takes only a day or so to complete, and using our multi perosn staff, most projects can be completed with 1 to 4 weeks depending on the size. Especially since we use our own workers, lead times are less. It is a great time to renovate! just in time for the holidays, CCD can have your project complete before the in-laws come in to town.
